The US Embargo on Cuba
from a Canadian’s Perspective

Guest Speaker Bill Ryan,

Bill Ryan created Cubacan with Gerardo Hernandez Nordelo, one of the Cuban Five, as a name to for their baseball bats.  To date Cubacan has produced and donated over 1,000 bats to Cuba. With the support of the Canadian Network on Cuba, Cubacan is now helping Cubans produce these bats in Cuba. Come and hear how the embargo has impacted their efforts.

Cuban baseball bat maker, More, who is in his 70’s working on an outdated lathe in Havana Cuba.  The Cubacan project is raising funds to purchase and install a copy lathe that can produce a large quantity of bats.  Cuba’s national sport is Baseball and it has faced shortages of necessary equipment due mainly to the US Embargo against Cuba.
